From way back in 1984:
The machine itself was godawful, and few tears were shed in my house the day Hurricane Gloria delivered the electrical surge that fried it for good. There was virtually no operating system, and it took upwards of 20 minutes just to load BASIC from a magnetic cassette tape. No one wrote any software for it, which meant it was mostly useless for the Average Joe. I do recall getting excited about writing some programs that were basically computerized MadLibs (which also means I probably shouldn't be too hard on Hilary Duff, as my own hacking skills peaked at around age 10.) And God help you if you left one of those tapes on top of the computer, as they'd get wiped.
But boy do I miss that box. That was one hell of a box. You could build a fort big enough to fit a whole Cub Scout troop in that thing.
